Head Mount is aluminum rather than the cheap plasticįound on my Bogen Manfrotto 3021 that broke while traveling The clips will certainly be a vulnerability point while traveling, so I wouldn’t advise checking this tripod unless it is very secure in something that can avoid stress on the legs. The leg clips worked well and the head was made of metal to avoid cracking as my plastic Bogen Manfrotto 3021 tripod had done. I was able to extend this tripod to 70” (178cm), yet get it down to a low 10.8” (27.7cm). It feels solid and is very stable, yet it’s only 5.88 pounds (2.67kg) which isn’t too bad considering its size. However, when I got it I quickly understood why so many people loved it. I’ll admit I was skeptical as I’ve never been impressed with cheap tripods, and this one comes in at just under $100 (as of the time of this writing from B&H). Shown with the extension portion of the center column removed Slik 700DX in collapsed minimum height configuration This makes it much lighter than most tripods at this price point, but it’s not featherweight like the carbon fiber tripods I’ll review later. The ratings on B&H were out of this world and my contacts at B&H assured me that it was a pretty decent product that wasn’t too heavy thanks to its use of aluminum. This is why when I did my research on tripods I was surprised to hear of so many people singing the praises of the SLIK Pro 700 DX tripod legs. Good tripods are usually pretty expensive, and cheap tripods are frequently crap that are about as stable as putting your camera on your friends back while you shoot. Shown with a Really Right Stuff BH-55 ball head Foam covers on each of the legs provide a secure and comfortable grip while moving the tripod, and rubber feet help to enhance stability on a wide variety of surfaces.Slik 700DX – a great tripod for beginners For added versatility, the center column is reversible, facilitating low-angle photography where an attached camera is positioned among the tripod's legs instead of above them. Each of these three movements function independently of each other and can be locked into place. The head can be rotated 360°, and tilted 90° backwards or forwards, as well as sideways for portrait orientation. Cameras, sport optics, or camcorders that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 mount can be connected to the quick release plate, which is secured to the tripod's pan-and-tilt head using a quick release cam lock. The SLIK Pro 700 DX Tripod provides a maximum height of 60.0", 65.8" with its center column shortened as well as fully raised, and 75.0" with the complete column fully raised. This feature permits a minimum height of 25.4" or 16.1" when the center column is shortened. The included push-and-pull, rapid center column is multi-sectional, which allows it to be converted to a shortened center column. Each of its 3-section legs features an independent spread, a 3-position angle lock, and flip locks for fast deployment. This black, SLIK Pro 700 DX Tripod with 700 DX 3-Way, Pan-and-Tilt Head supports up to 19.8 lb, measures 29.9" when folded, and includes a quick release plate.
